Safety guard for road maintenance work

This is for a phase 2 of the Catawba Mountain fire road maintenance project, November 10-20, 2025. The project involves heavy equipment, stabilizing, reshaping, and installing water drainage dips on about one and a quarter mile section of the fire road to improve this gated dirt road for both hikers and emergency/administrative vehicles.
Safety guards will be positioned at several locations during work days to provide information and redirect hikers to ensure both hiker and contractor safety.
Guards will be driven to their duty stations at the beginning of each day. Work will be solitary and stationary/sedentary. Some guards may hike up to 1.5 miles near the end each day.
Bring cell phone, lunch, snacks, water, warm layers of clothing, rain, jackets. Optional items include camp chairs, and hand tools for minor, local trail brushing. Hardhats are required for guards working near the equipment. Extra vests and hardhats will be available.
