Boundary Walking
Come join us for an off-trail scavenger hunt! What are we looking for? Appalachian Trail survey monuments! The purpose of boundary walking is to monitor the boundary lines of the AT corridor. This is an essential component of the continuing preservation of the Appalachian Trail and the land surrounding it. Plus, it’s a rare opportunity to explore the forest off trail in different terrain and learn some wayfinding skills.

Our tasks for day of boundary walking:
- Marking the trail corridor boundary line by painting blazes and hanging signs
- clearing the line of vegetation
- locating Appalachian Trail survey monuments.
We are also on the lookout for any signs of illegal encroachment or misuse of public lands. Following boundary lines will take us over some steep and difficult terrain, so be prepared for a challenge!
Boundary walking cannot be done in the rain, or any inclement weather. Events can be cancelled as early as the day before work so check Meetup.com before heading out!
