Boundary Work at Sawtooth Ridge 3/20

Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club Meetup Group
Project Description:
We previously worked from the McAfee Parking Lot to the Southwest along Sawtooth Ridge. Join us to help complete this segment of boundary working from the opposite direction, from the Dragon’s Tooth Parking Lot to the Northeast.
Boundary work refers to the maintenance of boundary lines on National Park Service land surrounding the Appalachian Trail. Maintaining the boundary is a way of protecting the land and ensuring its future.
Boundary work involves using maps to locate the boundary line and the survey monuments that mark it, hiking the line to monuments to document conditions, while painting and hanging signs on trees.
Considering the vast amount of land surrounding the Appalachian Trail, volunteers are integral to the continued maintenance of the boundary. This posting is for beginner and advanced boundary monitors alike.
Please be prepared with clothing that is appropriate for hiking off trail, for inclement weather, and for painting. Also be prepared with food and water for the day. Work equipment will be provided.
Location:
Dragon’s Tooth Parking Lot on 311, plan to shuttle closer to work site
