Biking the New River Trail w/ optional Campfire

I have a long bike ride coming up and I have a new bike to test out and new gear to try, so figured this would be a great way to do all 3 in one overnight test run on the NRV trail.

This is the plan (for me) and anyone who would like to join me or you can do option 2 (discussed below). I am planning on riding from Foster Falls to Galax (approximately 33 miles) Saturday and camping at the Cliffview Campground, which is 2 miles from the Galax parking area.

Here is option 2: I can meet you at the Galax parking area at 12:00 pm and we can ride to Foster Falls (approximately 33 miles) and I can shuttle you back to your car(s), for those who don’t want to ride back to their cars. And then I will just ride back to the Cliffview Campground.

About the New River Trail: This is a fairly flat (level) rail to trail. So, it is a fairly easy ride that runs right along the New River (go figure, right?!)

Optional: Also, the VASP is having an event called Campfire by the Creek at the Cliffview Campground that evening from 6 pm – 7 pm. We will sit around the fire and just converse with others and with a park ranger and they will also go over the little critters that are in that environment. They will also be providing marshmallows, so I will bring some chocolate and graham crackers, if anyone would like to make some S’mores. You do not have to camp to participate.
