Weekend For Wilderness: Wilderness and the Myths of American Environmentalism
The culmination of Roanoke’s Weekend For Wilderness is a keynote address by Dr. James Turner, Roanoke native and author of “The Promise of Wilderness”.
Many people have viewed the Wilderness Act of 1964 as the culminating event in a long history of American conservation and preservation. This talk takes wilderness as the starting point for a new history of American environmental politics. An interactive Panel Discussion follows which includes some of the region’s most active conservationists including:
