Troutville Trail Days Hike: See Carvin’s Cove from Tinker Ridge (moderate)

ATC Natural Resource Specialist Conner McBane will lead this hike southbound on the A.T. from 220 in Daleville to the crest of Tinker Ridge, for excellent views of Carvin’s Cove.

This 4-mile round trip hike features about 800 feet of elevation gain from the leafy banks of Tinker Creek to the rock outcrops up on the ridge. It’s generally considered a “moderate” hike but you may find it “strenuous” on a hot day!

Please wear appropriate close-toed hiking footwear and bring at least 1 liter (or quart) of water, rain and sun protection (jacket/poncho and hat/sunscreen), and other day hike essentials.

Due to the proximity of development including Interstate 81, the lower portion of this hike passes through an area plagued by invasive plants. Conner will point out a few of the worst offenders, as well as some interesting native plants like the table mountain pine community up on the ridge. Bring your questions about invasive species control on the A.T.!

A shuttle will be provided from Troutville Trail Days in the Town Park to the Daleville trailhead and back. If hike participants are interested, the group can walk over to My
Happy Place for some frozen yogurt after the hike and meet the shuttle there!

Plan to stick around for live music and Trail Days activities in the Troutville Town Park after the hike! For all the details about Troutville Trail Days visit:
