RAPP Hike #4 – Bottom Creek Gorge

This is the fourth in the RAPP Series of hikes highlighting mid-week leg-stretcher hiking opportunities in Roanoke Area Parks and Preserves. This hike is a 20-30 minute drive from our meeting place so we will carpool. Bring $2.00 carpool fee and give it to the driver you ride with.

Bottom Creek Gorge is a Nature Conservancy property. There are four trails. We will hike them all for a combined distance of 5.5 miles.

The highlight of this hike is the falls which is claimed to be the second tallest in Virginia. The trees have not yet leafed out and sucked the water out of the streams, so hopefully there will be a decent amount of water coming over the falls and no leaves to block the view.

Bring a lunch or snack. We will hike all the side trails first then arrive at the falls, where we will eat, and then head straight for the parking area.

I don’t mean to be a party pooper but in general I prefer not to have dogs on the hikes I lead, and in this case I need to mention that the Nature Conservancy specifically forbids them.
