Lick Branch Lollipop 11.5 miles. Strenuous.
Located in Craig County east of New Castle on the border of Botetourt County, this lollypop hike will begin at the far end of North Mountain where the North Mountain Trail ends. The hike will follow the Ferrier Trail up and over Broad Mountain where it ends on a gravel road (FS 5026). The hike continues approximately 1 mile to the end of the road where Lick Branch Trail begins. Continue on Lick Branch Trail to Ferrier and take Ferrier back to the trailhead. This last stretch has two uphill sections. The first segment is 3 miles gaining 620 feet and the second segment is 1 mile gaining 750 feet. Thirteen miles from Roanoke, $1.50 carpool fee.
