Johns Creek Mountain Trail – AT

9.5 miles; strenuous; 40 miles from Roanoke; $3.00 car fee.

The hike begins on Johns Creek Mountain in Craig County on Rt 658. We will hike along the ridge of the mountain using the Johns Creek Mountain Trail for 3.5 miles to the intersection with the AT just north of Rocky Gap. Heading north on the AT we will pass Big Pond, a high elevation bog, and stop at White Rock and Kelly Knob with views of Salt Pond Mt and Blacksburg. Heading further north we will pass Laurel Creek Shelter before passing over Rt 42 ending our hike at Rt 630. This hike requires a short 4 mile car shuttle.
