10 miles; Not too Strenuous; About 30 miles from the Daleville Park and Ride; $2 Carpool fee.
Last minute post to replace the weekend hike for Josiah, who postponed his Blue Ridge Sampler until March 25 because of illness. I was really looking forward to racing him up Chestnut Mt!
Starting off Craigs Creek Rd in Botetourt County, this is a classic double loop hike. The lower loop takes in two uniquely different streams in Stoney Run with its rocky gorge like appearance and Hines Branch with the peaceful Rhododendron lined stream. The upper loop climbs up to a ridge and sag between Bald and Pine Mountains. We should have nice leaf off and tree break views from the top.
Depending on the group consensus, we can begin the hike at the Roaring Run Rec area and add a couple of miles to the hike.
