Hike the turkey off; Stone Mountain State Park – Roaring Gap, NC

We will be meeting at the Exxon/7-11 gas station off Exit #85 on I77S in Elkin, NC. This is 110 miles from Salem or 85 miles from Christiansburg ($10 carpool fee suggested). Once together, from this gas station we will drive 15 more miles to the park. We’ll be hiking on 2 or 3 trails totaling at least 8 miles, but not more than 10 miles, depending on the group’s consent. This hike should be considered as moderate to strenuous so bring plenty of snacks and water appropriate for such a hike. The views are outstanding and this park also hosts a very cool little area where the old Hutchinson homeplace can be viewed, including signage explaining all the neat info..

The massive granite dome at Stone Mountain State Park keeps watch on park visitors enjoying nearly every type of outdoor activity – camping, hiking, climbing, fishing, picnicking, horseback riding and more. There are more than 18 miles of trails, matched by more than 20 miles of designated trout waters in this park that spreads below the Blue Ridge Parkway.
