Goshen Pass – Jump Rock

10.5 miles; 50 miles from Daleville Park and Ride; $3.50 Carpool Fee; Strenuous.

One of Virginia’s gems, Goshen Pass, near Lexington, encompasses a Wildlife Management Area that includes several wonderful viewpoints including north facing Jump Rock and west facing Viewing Rock overlooking Lake Merriweather. The hike begins with a walk across a swinging bridge at the confluence of the Cowpasture and Little Cowpasture Rivers which form the wild and cascading Maury River. This will be a loop hike entirely on blazed trails hitting the high points of the WMA. The trail has some steep and rocky portions with some rock scrambling in the first half of the hike. The second half of the hike is mostly down hill through a myriad of trails back to the swinging bridge and our parking area.
