Following a former towpath and railroad bed, the Chessie Nature trail parallels the Maury River between Lexington and Buena Vista. It has river views, high cliffs and well-preserved locks of 19th-centry canal system. Flat walking with plenty of geological, natural, pastoral and historical features to observe. I’m hoping for lots of spring wildflowers!

We will meet at the Daleville Park and Ride and carpool to the Buena Vista end of the trail, then shuttle to Lexington to begin the hike.
