Cascades, Barney’s Wall, and Butt Mountain

11 miles, strenuous terrain

51 miles from the Orange Market, $5.00 carpool fee
There is a $3.00/car fee to park.

The hike follows the Creekside Trail which frequently crosses Little Stony Creek (on bridges) to the Cascades – an impressive waterfall.  It will then go up the nature Conservancy Trail to Barney’s Wall, a cliff that features a 700-foot drop with a great view of the New River Valley. From there it will continue on along the ridge-top of Butt Mountain to the location of an old fire lookout tower.  Return by the same route with the option of using the fire road instead of the trail from the Cascades to the parking lot.
