Barbours Creek Wilderness Area – Potts Arm – Cove Branch Trail

7 miles; Strenuous due to trail conditions and terrain along Cove Branch; 35 miles from Roanoke; $3.00 Carpool fee

The hike begins at a remote trail head in Barbours Creek Wilderness in Craig County. The trails were abandoned by the Forestry Service a while back. But this provides a beautiful, undisturbed environment to experience quiet and solitude. We will do this loop hike counterclockwise. We will hike Cove Trail for a mile along  Cove Creek to the intersection with Potts Arm Trail.  Ascending up to a ridge that has some nice views before descending off of the ridge to intersect with Cove Branch Trail. The next 2.7 miles are along this beautiful cascading branch. This will take us back to the parking area. The hike is a difficult hike due to the overgrowth, numerous blowdowns, and the rocky terrain along Cove Branch. But rewards make it worthwhile.
