Assist with Fire Road Closure II
Roanoke County is bringing in heavy equipment to finish up the Fire Road improvements. Several bulldozers will be smoothing out the rough sections, making it unsafe for hiker traffic. The Fire Road will be closed from Rte 311 to the A.T./Fire Road intersection north of Catawba Mt. Shelter.
Folks who RSVP will be informing, alerting, and diverting hikers from the Fire Road onto the A.T.
We’ll break the day into two shifts: 8:45-1pm, and 1pm-5pm
Each shift will have three positions to fill –
1) Parking Lot
2) A.T./Fire Road Connector Trail
3) the A.T./Fire Road intersection
It’d be good to have at least 4 folks for each shift – it’s nice to have two people at the parking lot if it’s busy.
NOTE: If you are able to help out on any of these shifts, please leave a comment indicating time & location that you’re interested in.
