Appalachian Trail Dedication & Ribbon Cutting

*This is not an RATC event but posted FYI, as the club, its members and the public have all been invited to this exciting, historical event.*

Dedication and Ribbon Cutting of the new A.T. Relocation between the New River and Rice Field Shelter!

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy invites you to join the United States Forest Service, Celanese Corporation, Columbia Gas, the Outdoor Club at Virginia Tech and the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club to celebrate the dedication of the last portion of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail to become publically protected.  

When: Friday, May 23rd at 9:30 a.m. 

Where: Celanese Corporation, Pearisburg, VA. Parking area will be signed from U.S 460 on the day of the event.

Event Schedule  9:30: Press Packets are passed out to attendees.  9:40: Opening Remarks, Introductions and Welcome.  9:50: 5 to10 minute walk up the new Appalachian Trail to site of the Dedication, the hike is short and rated easy.  10:00: Remarks from critical players within the partnership who secured this protection for the Appalachian Trail.  10:15: Painting of the first white blaze and ribbon cutting  10:20: Questions  10:30: Return to parking area.
