11 mile hike: Rock Castle Gorge

Sunday May 1, 2016. Meet at Back Creek Elementary School on Rt. 221 at 8:00 am. Moderately strenuous 11 mile loop with excellent views in good weather. Abundant spring wildflowers. Bear and turkey not uncommon. Approximately 75 minute drive from meeting point to the trail head and typically 4½ to 5½ hours of hiking. Trail washout and downed trees from this winter’s snow and floods still an issue in places so hike may take longer than usual. Experienced hikers in good condition only please. No children. Dogs not recommended. Bring lunch, snacks, water, and layered clothing appropriate to weather forecasts. Recommend a change of dry clothes (left in car at trail head) for a more comfortable ride home.  Led by Gary Oberlender and Karen Callahan. Please email Gary to sign up:  gob3255@cox.net
